Skid-Mounted LPG Tank — 6 000 L Forklift Portable

SKU MG-LPG-SKID6K · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A 6 000 litre LPG vessel mounted on a heavy fabricated steel skid with forklift pockets and certified lifting lugs, bridging the gap between a static plinth-mounted tank and a fully framed ISO tank container. The skid spreads the load over a wide footprint, so on firm level ground the unit can stand without a concrete plinth at all, which is why it suits construction sites, mining contracts, seasonal agricultural drying and mobile bakeries where the installation must come back off the ground when the contract ends. The pressure vessel is carbon steel to a 17.5 bar design pressure, hydrostatically tested, coated in a grey industrial system, and fitted with a protected top valve group comprising filler, liquid offtake with excess-flow protection, vapour service valve, relief valve, contents gauge and low-point drain. The skid is drilled for anchoring where a customer specification calls for it and carries earthing bosses. Combined tare mass is about 1 900 kg, within reach of a common eight-tonne forklift. Supplied empty, purged and gas-free with the vessel data pack, for commissioning, first fill and certification by a registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
