LPG Bulk Storage Tank — 6 000 L Above-Ground

SKU MG-LPG-6000 · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A 6 000 litre horizontal above-ground LPG storage vessel for industrial process heat, larger agricultural operations and businesses that want a full month of autonomy at peak burn. Roughly 7.0 m long by 1.2 m in diameter with a tare mass around 1 550 kg, it is delivered on a flatbed and lifted into place by mobile crane onto engineered piers, so the site needs crane access and a foundation design signed off before delivery day. The shell is carbon steel to a 17.5 bar design pressure, hydrostatically tested and finished in a solar-reflective white system over zinc-rich primer. The valve group is grouped under a protective dome and includes twin service take-offs so vapour and liquid duties can run independently, plus excess-flow protection, a full-relief valve sized to the vessel, a rotary contents gauge, fixed maximum-level bleed and a low-point drain. Earthing bosses and anchor holes are provided on both saddles. Supplied empty, purged and gas-free with vessel data plate, hydrostatic certificate and fitting schedule. Foundation design, separation distances, commissioning, first fill and the certificate of compliance rest with your registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
