LPG Bulk Storage Tank — 4 000 L Refurbished & Retested

SKU MG-LPG-4000R · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A refurbished 4 000 litre above-ground LPG vessel: the same capacity as our new unit at a materially lower capital cost, for buyers who care about vaporisation rate rather than showroom finish. The tank came out of a decommissioned depot installation, was degassed and purged, then stripped to bare metal, ultrasonically thickness-tested across the shell and dished ends, and hydrostatically retested with certification issued in the current year. Valves and gauges were replaced as a set rather than reused, so the filler, liquid offtake with excess-flow, vapour service valve, relief valve and contents gauge are all new. The saddles were cropped where corrosion was found and rewelded, and the vessel was recoated with a zinc-rich primer and off-white top coat applied by roller, which is why the finish shows brush texture and minor colour variation the new tanks do not. Expect cosmetic weld-seam shadowing and small paint runs; expect no pitting deeper than the recorded thickness allowances. Tare mass is roughly 1 050 kg. Supplied empty, purged and gas-free with the retest and thickness reports, for commissioning by a registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
