LPG Bulk Storage Tank — 4 000 L Above-Ground

SKU MG-LPG-4000 · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A 4 000 litre horizontal above-ground LPG vessel for production environments with sustained vapour demand: powder coating lines, industrial ovens, poultry houses, boiler feeds and multi-tenant kitchen precincts. The larger wetted surface area gives a much higher natural vaporisation rate than the smaller vessels in the range, so burners hold pressure during long high-fire periods without needing a vaporiser. Nominal dimensions are about 5.0 m long by 1.1 m in diameter with a tare mass near 1 050 kg, which means placement wants a crane truck and a properly designed plinth or pier pair. Construction is carbon steel to a 17.5 bar design pressure, hydrostatically tested, primed and finished in a reflective white industrial coating. The dome carries the filler valve, liquid offtake with excess-flow protection, vapour service valve, relief valve, contents gauge, fixed-level bleed and a low-point drain, and the saddles are drilled for anchoring with earthing bosses fitted. Supplied empty, purged and gas-free with the full vessel data pack. Site layout, separation distances, commissioning, first fill and the certificate of compliance are the responsibility of your registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
