LPG Bulk Storage Tank — 2 700 L Above-Ground

SKU MG-LPG-2700 · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

The 2 700 litre above-ground vessel is the size most South African hospitality and agricultural sites settle on: large enough to earn bulk delivery pricing, small enough to place on a modest plinth without a major civil works package. The tank measures roughly 3.6 m long by 1.0 m in diameter with a tare mass near 700 kg, and is fabricated from carbon steel to a 17.5 bar design pressure with a hydrostatic test certificate in the data pack. The finish is a two-coat white system chosen for solar reflectivity, which keeps daytime vapour pressure and regulator behaviour predictable. Fittings are grouped under a lockable dome: filler valve, liquid offtake with excess-flow, vapour service take-off, pressure relief valve, rotary contents gauge and fixed maximum-level indicator, with a drain at the low point. Saddle supports are drilled for anchor bolts and the shell carries earthing lugs. It ships empty, purged and gas-free by road on a flatbed from our Johannesburg depot, with kilometre-rated freight quoted to your postal code. Commissioning, first fill, leak testing and the certificate of compliance are performed on site by a registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
