LPG Bulk Storage Tank — 1 000 L Above-Ground
SKU MG-LPG-1000 · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng
A 1 000 litre horizontal above-ground LPG storage vessel, the smallest bulk tank in our range and the usual first step up from bottled gas for a guest house, bakery, small restaurant kitchen or farm workshop. The vessel is fabricated from carbon steel to a 17.5 bar design pressure, shot-blasted and finished in a reflective white coating that keeps vapour pressure stable through a Highveld summer. It sits on two welded saddle legs that bolt straight onto a levelled concrete plinth, so no crane hire is needed on a normal residential or light commercial site — a small truck-mounted crane or a four-tonne forklift places it in minutes. Top fittings are grouped under a protective dome and comprise a filler valve, liquid offtake with excess-flow protection, vapour service valve, pressure relief valve, contents gauge and a fixed maximum-level indicator. Nominal length is about 2.1 m with a 0.9 m diameter and roughly 350 kg tare mass. The tank is supplied empty, purged and gas-free with a manufacturer data pack; commissioning, first fill and all gas work must be completed on site by a registered LPG installer, who will also confirm the separation distances required from boundaries, openings and ignition sources.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.
Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.
Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
