Compact LPG Tank Container — 10 000 L, In-Test

SKU MG-LPG-TC10K · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A 10 000 litre LPG tank container in a compact framed footprint — half the length of a 20ft ISO T50 but with the same handling logic, so the same container lifter, spreader or side-loader that moves your dry boxes moves your gas storage. The vessel is a hydrostatically tested carbon steel barrel with dished ends, cradled on saddles inside a bolted steel frame with ISO corner castings, and its inspection and CSC certification are current, which keeps the unit legal for onward road or rail movement as freight rather than locking it to one address. The valve manifold sits in a protected end cabinet: filler valve, liquid offtake with excess-flow protection, vapour service valve, hydrostatic relief, pressure and contents gauges, and blanked transport outlets. A caged ladder and top walkway serve the dome for gauging. Tare mass is about 3 900 kg, so offloading needs a rated forklift, crane or tilt-bed. It leaves our Johannesburg depot empty, purged and gas-free with the test and CSC documentation in the pack; first fill, regulator sizing and the certificate of compliance are completed on site by a registered LPG installer.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. On tank units the pressure barrel is carbon steel, shot-blasted and finished with a solar-reflective topcoat to limit vapour pressure rise in direct sun.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
