40ft High Cube Reefer — Ex-Line Operational Unit

SKU MG-40HCREEF-EXL · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

An ex-shipping-line 40ft high cube integral reefer that has come out of container fleet service, been run-tested on depot power and released with a pull-down report showing it holds set point. The machinery end carries an air-cooled condenser, scroll compressor and controller display, and the unit accepts set points from -25 degrees C to +25 degrees C on a 400 V three-phase supply. Insulated walls, ceiling and doors are backed by a stainless T-bar floor that lets return air move under the pallets, giving roughly 67 m3 of controlled volume for bulk produce buffering, dairy, meat holding or central cold room duty. Cosmetically this is a working unit: expect line livery, panel scuffs and cladding marks rather than factory paint. The unit needs a dedicated three-phase circuit with a suitable isolator; our team confirms your supply and cable route at quotation and can price a plug-and-play kit as an extra.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. Flooring is 28mm marine-grade plywood over steel cross-members on nominal 300mm centres, rated for a 7 260 kg forklift axle load.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
