40ft High Cube Reefer — As-Is Insulated Shell
SKU MG-40HCREEF-ASIS · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng
A weathered 40ft high cube reefer sold as-is, bought for the insulated body, the frame and whatever remains recoverable from the machinery bay. Expect faded and stained cladding, rust streaks around the frame and door hardware, dents from years of yard handling, ageing insulation and a floor that will need inspection before any food-related use. The refrigeration performance is not warranted and in most units the machinery is either removed or non-functional. What remains valuable is a very large insulated envelope at a low entry cost: fabricators use these as bases for storerooms, drying and curing rooms, workshops that need thermal stability, and shells for customer-fitted cooling plant. Corner castings and lift points are sound so the unit handles on standard container equipment and can be tilt-bed delivered or craned. Each as-is unit differs, so we photograph the specific container allocated to your order before dispatch and you approve it before it leaves the yard.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.
Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. Flooring is 28mm marine-grade plywood over steel cross-members on nominal 300mm centres, rated for a 7 260 kg forklift axle load.
Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
