20ft Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Reefer — Data-Logged

SKU MG-20REEF-PHARMA · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng

A 20ft reefer prepared for pharmaceutical and vaccine cold chain duty, where an unrecorded excursion is as serious as a failure. The unit is deep-cleaned to a clinical finish, gaskets are replaced, and it is run at +2 to +8 degrees C over a multi-hour mapping cycle with probes at multiple positions so we can show the temperature spread across the load space rather than just the return-air reading. The fit-out includes a calibrated temperature data logger with downloadable records, a wall-mounted display, a high and low temperature alarm output that can drive a siren or an SMS dialler, and a lockable door arrangement for controlled-stock discipline. Roughly 27 m3 of controlled volume sits on a stainless T-bar floor. Buyers requiring formal qualification documentation should raise it at quotation: we supply the mapping data and equipment certificates, and your quality team completes site validation on the installed unit. Requires a 400 V three-phase supply, ideally with backup power.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.

Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. Flooring is 28mm marine-grade plywood over steel cross-members on nominal 300mm centres, rated for a 7 260 kg forklift axle load.

Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
