20ft Freezer Container — Deep-Freeze Duty to -25 °C
SKU MG-20REEF-FRZ · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng
A 20ft reefer selected specifically for sustained deep-freeze duty and tested at -25 degrees C against a Gauteng summer ambient before release, rather than simply being sold as a chiller that can reach a low set point. Freezer duty is hard on a refrigeration set: we check compressor capacity, defrost operation, evaporator fan condition, door seal compression and insulation integrity, and we replace the gaskets on any unit that will not hold a stable pull-down. The result is a box that will keep frozen meat, fish, ice cream, bakery stock or pharmaceutical product at hard-frozen temperature through load-shedding recovery cycles and hot afternoons. Internal volume is roughly 28 m3 on a stainless T-bar floor, on a 400 V three-phase supply. We recommend pairing freezer units with a standby generator or an inverter-backed control supply; our team can price a genset or a plug-and-play connection kit alongside the container.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.
Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. Flooring is 28mm marine-grade plywood over steel cross-members on nominal 300mm centres, rated for a 7 260 kg forklift axle load.
Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
