20ft Dual-Temperature Reefer — Partitioned Chill and Freeze
SKU MG-20REEF-DUAL · Held at Johannesburg, Gauteng
A 20ft reefer divided by an insulated internal partition into two independently controlled temperature zones, so one container does the work of a chiller and a freezer on sites where there is only space or power for a single unit. The partition is a full-height insulated panel with a heavy insulated access door and its own evaporator serving the second zone, and each side has its own controller and temperature display so staff can see both set points at a glance. A typical configuration runs the larger zone at +2 to +8 degrees C for produce, dairy or beverages and the smaller zone at -18 degrees C or colder for frozen stock, and the split can be specified before build. Total usable volume is roughly 27 m3 across both zones on a stainless T-bar floor. The unit requires a 400 V three-phase supply sized for both circuits; our team confirms the electrical requirement with your electrician before build so nothing is a surprise on commissioning day.

The shell is fabricated from Corten A weathering steel — a copper, chromium and nickel alloy that forms a tightly adherent oxide layer instead of the flaking scale you get on mild steel. That patina slows further corrosion, which is why a 25-year-old box can still be structurally sound while a painted mild-steel shed of the same age has perforated.
Side and end panels are 14-gauge (2.0mm) corrugated sheet welded to a rigid frame of rolled top and bottom rails with cast steel corner fittings on the ISO 1161 pattern. Roof panels are 2.0mm with an arch profile that shifts standing water toward the eaves. Flooring is 28mm marine-grade plywood over steel cross-members on nominal 300mm centres, rated for a 7 260 kg forklift axle load.
Expect surface oxidation on used grades: it is cosmetic. We reject units with through-plate pitting, cracked welds at the corner posts, or bowed rails, because those defects affect stacking strength and cannot be repaired economically in the field.
